The board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session with the following members present: Chairman Steve Roberts, Dwight Kruse and Keith Olsen. Also present were County Clerk Melissa Gormley and Deputy County Clerk Dawn Boyles. County Attorney Kevin Hill was present for a portion of the meeting. Steve Roberts opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m.

Payroll: The July 3 payroll was approved for a total of $132,203.90 as follows — General $68,528.25; Road & Bridge $17,409.58; Election $1,665.78; Technology $964.69; Appraiser $5,120.01; Noxious Weed $1,527.75; ACC $6,207.32; JJA Core $6,880.99; Reinvestment Grant $1,683.50; Services for Elderly $2,717; Solid Waste $3,933.25; Special MVT $1,380; Employee Ben FICA $7,664.25; Employee Ben KPERS $8,741.88; State Unemploy/Work Comp -$139.14; Insurance -$2,081.21.

Brown County Undersheriff Randy Linck reported there are 30 inmates, 20 males and 10 females currently at the Brown County Jail.

Motion by Keith Olsen to approve the July 2, 2018 minutes. Seconded by Dwight Kruse. Motion carried.

Motion by Keith Olsen to waive the dump charges for Martin Trash Service for the trash from the Brown County Fair. Seconded by Dwight Kruse. Motion carried.

Brown County Register of Deeds Nellie Brockhoff discussed her budget with the commission. Motion by Steve Roberts to raise the Register of Deeds 2019 budget to $90,000. Seconded by Dwight Kruse. Motion carried.

Motion by Keith Olsen to approve the 2019 Brown County budget for publication with the Register of Deeds budget correction. Seconded by Steve Roberts. Motion carried. The Budget Hearing will take place at 8:30 a.m. on July 31.

Motion by Keith Olsen to appoint Jeff Shelton to the KANZA Mental Health board. Seconded by Steve Roberts. Motion carried.

Brown County Clerk Melissa Gormley presented three invoices to be paid for the Brown County Fair parade.

Roger Hamm, deputy director of KDOR/PVD, was available by conference call to visit with the commissioners about the appraiser position. Brown County Interim Appraiser Teresa Clements was also present. Hamm discussed the different options the county has in filling the position.

Motion to adjourn by Keith Olson, seconded by Dwight Kruse. Adjourned at 9:33 a.m. Next meeting is Monday, July 16.
