It might be 100 degrees out, but it’s never too early to start thinking about Halloween — especially in Hiawatha.

The home of the oldest consecutive Halloween celebration in the nation is always the place to be in October. The Hiawatha Chamber and Visitors Bureau is already busy making plans for activities — the first coming up will be the logo contest.

The HCVB is looking for artist to enter the 2018 Hiawatha Halloween Frolic Logo Contest. This year’s theme is Hiawatha’s Monster Mash, and participants are encouraged to create a logo to match up with the theme.

Entries must be original works by the artist and submitted in a high resolution PDF, JPEG or vector file. Entries along with entry form are due by Aug. 21 and can be submitted to the following email: Hiawatha HalloweenParade@gmail.com.

Judges will be looking for the following:

Fidelity to the year’s theme

Family friendly

One to two color image

The vote will come down to the people.

There will be a People’s Choice vote on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Aug. 22-31. Winning entries will be announced Sept. 1 and will have their logo promoted on the HCVB website, Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram, as well as appear on the Chamber’s promotional materials for Halloween.

The winning artist will be announced on the Hiawatha Halloween Frolic Facebook page, local media and receive a T-shirt displaying their logo, a winners plaque and $50.

Artists age 14 and older are eligible for entry. Artists under 18 years of age must have their form signed by a parent or guardian.

For entry form, go to the HCVB’s Facebook sites at Hiawatha Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau or Hiawatha Halloween Frolic. Contact the Chamber at hiawathachamber@rainbowtel.net or 785-742-7136 for more information.
