The Hiawatha 7th grade defeated Riverside 21-14 on Thursday, Nov. 8
Coach Ann Severin said Maggie Pierce scored 8 points, Leah Kesler had 6 points, Abby Elffner had 5 points, and Bella Holm had 2 points.
The 7th grade A team lost Monday at home to Royal Valley 18-13. Abby Elffner had 6 points, Leah Kesler had 4 points and Maggie Pierce had 3 points. 7th grade played 2 quarters of a B game. Hiawatha won 11-10. Bella Holm had 8 points, Tia Howard had 2 points and Emma Entrikin had 1 point.
In the 8A game, the Red Hawks took command of the contest early in the second quarter with tenacious defense. They didn’t allow RVMS a field goal until after halftime, and by the end of the 3rd quarter, the Red Hawks had built a 23-5 lead. They went on to win 33-10. Darcy Lierz scored 17 points and Josie Delaney added 7 points to complete the season sweep of Royal Valley.
In the B team game, HMS dominated the 3rd and 4th quarters to secure 26-8 victory. Hiawatha hasn’t lost a B team game all season.
Next up, HMS travels to Seneca to take on Nemaha Central.
