It is funny how life can remind us of lessons. At times we have a tendency to forget what we already know. The hurriedness of life gets in the way and when that happens it is possible for life to be thrown out of balance. I don’t know about you, but for me, when life is out of balance I am not myself. When life is out of balance I can become easily agitated and bitter over trivial, small things. Balance in life is extremely important. I will elaborate.

I have been making an effort lately to exercise and stay in shape. Due to the busyness of life lately I haven’t been consistent in my workout schedule. I have also been traveling lately. I had to attend a conference in California last week. The conference, due to the time zone change, had my sleep schedule messed up. The combination of not working out and a messed up sleep schedule caused me to feel out of balance. In addition to that, I didn’t do my early morning devotions. That really threw me out of balance. By the end of the week when I got home, I just wasn’t myself. Realizing this fact I made a decision to get back into my normal routine and I started doing my devotional in the morning. I went to sleep at a reasonable hour and I exercised. I am now feeling much better. I feel better because my life is now in balance again.

The key to keeping life in balance is to be aware of your body, your mind, your spirit and your emotions and make an effort to maintain these aspects of your life. If you are not taking care of your body, your mind, your spirit and your emotions, simultaneously, you will be out of balance.

Some people get out of balance and they don’t even know it. Some people live their lives consistently out of balance and it harms them. I think the secret to understanding balance in life lies in our ability to utilize the wisdom that God gives us.

Wisdom is a trait that many people do not possess. I honestly believe that one of the main problems our country is facing right now is lack of wisdom in leadership. People can move through the rankings of leadership and be very smart, but that doesn’t mean they are wise. Wisdom cannot be gained by an education or business experience. Wisdom cannot be gained by a leadership role. Wisdom is gained through a direct relationship with God. Many of the leaders in our country do not possess a relationship with God and therefore, are not wise leaders.

The book of Proverbs in the Bible is full of wisdom. This morning I read proverb 24. In verses three through seven it talks about wisdom. I will share them with you. “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases power. For by wise guidance you will wage war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory. Wisdom is too exalted for a fool, he does not open his mouth in the gate.”

In the above quotation we can learn some things. We can learn that we need to consistently be growing in knowledge and in doing so we increase in power. We can learn that knowledge brings us precious and pleasant riches. (These riches aren’t necessarily exclusively financially based. We can have precious and pleasant riches in our friendships and relationships with other people).

Notice above that it says, “By wisdom a house is built.” And then it continues with, “and by understanding it is established.” We must receive wisdom first in order for our homes and families to be properly built. In order for our homes to become established, we must understand the wisdom.

Understanding and implementing the wisdom that God gives us is one of the secrets to happiness in life. It is the key to keeping life in balance. We should strive to learn wisdom and understand it and establish it in our lives and homes.
