Wild turkeys

Caution should be used when hunting turkeys as most common cause of a seasonal accidents is when a hunter is mistaken for game.

There will be a Kansas Hunter Education Class in September, with classroom sessions at the Fisher Center and a field day at Stony Point Farm.

On Tuesday, Sept. 17 and Wednesday, Sept. 18 the class will be from 6-10 p.m. at the Fisher Center, 205 E. Iowa in Hiawatha and field day is set for Saturday, Sept. 21 at Stony Point Farm, with times announced later.

Interested persons must be at least 11 years old by Sept. 21 in order to be certified. Younger persons may attend but cannot be certified. No pre-registration is required — register when hunters arrive at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fisher Center is handicapped accessible.
