New school speed zones near Elementary

By Joey May

Parents picking up students at the Hiawatha Elementary School, along with other drivers in the area, should be aware of new school zones with newly installed lights that will flash before and after school. District Maintenance Director Matt Cluck said three new lights were installed — the one pictured on Sixth Street heading north and two on Miami Street — one for eastbound traffic and one for westbound traffic on either side of the school. He said the flashing school zone lights were part of the improvements at the elementary that included a new bus loading zone and entrance and exit lanes.
