As a parent, one of the worst times of the day is bedtime. Because no matter how many times my kids yawn, they never really believe that they are tired. This has always been a struggle for our family.

That being said, our bedtime routine has changed recently. We spend a little time before going to sleep, talking about our day and we finish it off by giving one compliment to each member of the family.

This time has really caught on and now my 3 year old requests that we do compliments each night. This makes me feel better and it helps get the kids to bed with minimal complaints.

I often think about how much negative talk that I hear on a daily basis. If I am hearing this, how much are my kids hearing?

This is why one of my favorite scriptures is Ephesians 4:29. It says, Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

That is why I feel that no matter what negative talk that a person hears each day, it is always good to finish the day off with a compliment.

So I hope you join me in building others up by giving someone a compliment today. It may just be what they need at the end of a rough day.
