Stover case set for jury trial
A jury trial was set up for Hiawatha resident Jeremy Stover--who is facing multiple drug and sex charges--at the Brown County Courthouse during an arraignment on Monday.Stover pleaded not guilty to the eight charges that included felony sex and drug charges stemming from allegations of promoting the sale of sexual relations, sexual battery and distribution and possession of opiate/opium narcotic or certain stimulant.
Recent scams circulating the area
I would like to make county residents aware of several scams circulating the area.Residents are receiving messages by text and e-mail from what appears to be from the Kansas turnpike--DriveKS-- stating that this is a final reminder to pay your toll bill and if not, a $35 fee will be imposed.
City commission votes on re-allocation of funds
The city commission voted unanimously on re-allocating ARPA funds to purchase a sewer camera and two electric tapping machines during Monday’s meeting.City Administrator Brad Scott stated that the funds would be used to purchase a new sewer camera for $40,000 and two electric water tapping machines for the City of Hiawatha Water Department for $12,750.
