Maryln Christina Pederson Wenger


Maryln Christina Pederson Wenger, 87, of Powhattan Kansas passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at her home in Derby Kansas. She was born April 4, 1937, at Horton Hospital to Charley Pederson and Verda Wilson Massey Pederson who lived and farmed near Baker Kansas. 
  She was married on March 15, 1958, to Gilbert J Wenger of Powhattan, son of Rudy and Josephine Troutt Wenger. He survives of the home.  Maryln had three siblings, Floyd Massey, Lozene Massey Aarstad, and Karen Pederson Madsen. They all preceded her in death.  
  Also surviving are her two children, Sandra K Wenger (Tammy Harrell) of Mulvane Kansas and David S Wenger of Henderson Nevada, two grandchildren and two Great grandchildren.  
  Maryln attended school at Baker Elementary and Powhattan High before graduating from Willis High School in 1955.  
  Maryln and her husband Gilbert enjoyed being very active in the Cloverleaf Swingers Square Dance Club of Manhattan Kansas from 1980 to 1996. They traveled extensively to attend square dancing events and conventions where they formed many lasting friendships.  
  Before they married, Gilbert served aboard the USS Silverstein (DE534) while in the US Navy. Maryln and Gilbert traveled the country attending reunions of the Silverstein vets, along with other DE ships and their veterans. Many lifelong friends were counted among their number. 
  Some of Maryln’s other hobbies and interests included flower gardening and bird watching. The antics of hummingbirds provided her with many hours of enjoyment. She also enjoyed the company and companionship of a string of Miniature Schnauzers, Buffy, Mindy, and BayLee.  Maryln was a devoted wife and mother and loved her friends and family dearly. 
  A private graveside service and celebration of life is planned on her birthday, April 4, 2025 at Powhattan Cemetery. The family plans to receive guests and visitors that afternoon at their home in Powhattan. Details will be provided at a later date.  
 Memorial contributions can be made to Powhattan United Methodist Church in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha Kansas.
