Sunday, Dec. 8 >

• Hiawatha United Methodist Church is featuring its Vespers Program at 2 p.m. Songs and Readings of the season will be performed, while featuring an adult choir and small groups. UMC’s Bell Choirs and its Praise Band will also be featured, as well as a special duet. Refreshments will also follow after the program.

• The South Brown County Ministerial Association will be sponsoring the Christmas Luminaries from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is recommended that drivers begin the tour of the Luminaries at 14th and Central. Drivers much turn off their headlights, remain in their vehicle and turn off any loud music. The Luminaries will be taking place at the junction of Highways of 73 and K20 in Horton. Free will donation is encouraged.

• Morrill Public Library Happenings: Toddler Storytime at 10:30 a.m.; Knitting Club at 6 p.m.; Diverse Voices Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the large meeting room at the library.

Tuesday, Dec. 10 >

• Craig Foster from the Kansas Commission on Veteran Affairs will be available 1-3 p.m. in the Homer White American Legion Post, 813 Oregon St., in Hiawatha. As Regional Representative, Foster comes to the area so Veterans, their families or survivors can learn about VA services and benefits and file paperwork, locally. No appointment is necessary.

• Morrill Public Library Happenings: Wildlife Adventures, sponsored by the K-State Extension Office, from 3:45-4:30 p.m. for elementary through middle school age students; Library Family Game Night – Christmas Vacation Trivia @ 5:30 p.m. Light fun for all ages! Children under the age of 9 need to be accompanied by someone over the age of 16. Wear your ugly Christmas sweater!

• Hiawatha Middle School Band Concert takes place at 7 p.m.

• Coffee With Friends at 9:30 a.m. at Vintage Park, 400 Kansas Ave., Hiawatha.

• Wednesday Morning Book Club meets at 9:30 a.m. at the Morrill Public Library.

• New Beginnings Weight Loss Group meets in the basement of Presbyterian Church at 7th and Kickapoo on Wednesdays at 3:30-4:30 p.m. for weight in, meeting 4:30-5:30 p.m. Come in alley door on south side. For questions, call 785-285-2952.

• The Hiawatha High School Winter Band concert takes place at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 14 >

• TUBAChristmas is taking place at the Brown County Courthouse’s first floor foyer. Performances will begin at 12 p.m. Musicians–especially those who will play euphoniums and tubas–are invited to the event at 10 a.m. for practice.

• The Hiawatha Area Arts and Theatre Society will be bringing back its Music of Christmas event this year, which will feature a variety of singers, dancers and musicians. This musical event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Brown County Historical Society’s Memorial Auditorium at 611 Utah Street.
