A Brown County citizen spoke up in favor of keeping security at the courthouse at the beginning of Monday morning’s Brown County meeting.

Hiawatha resident Virgil Hallauer spoke up during the public comment portion of the meeting. He stated that he wanted security for the courthouse entrance, not “Wal-Mart greeters,” referring to the courthouse guards who monitor the entrance. He requested that security be “tightened down” and remarked that there were a lot of “crazy” people around, including “over a thousand people in Brown County” who voted for then-United States presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Hallauer left the room after making those comments. Brown County Sheriff was also present in the room but had no comments to give. Later during the discussion, there was discussion of road and bridge repairs.

During the Friday, Jan. 31 meeting, a series of executive sessions with Brown County personnel took place.
