HES student honored by Kansas Art Education Association
Hiawatha Elementary School second grader Taya Nelson was honored on Friday, March 29 by the Kansas Art Education Association at the state’s Youth Art Month celebration as one of the recipients of the 2025 Anne and Bill Bracker 3-D Yam Awards.

DWHS Honor Society inducts new members
The Doniphan West chapter of the National Honor Society inducted new members in an evening ceremony on Tuesday, March 25. The new members, Michael Albers, Hayden Paolino, Jaidyn Smith, Tabin Clary, Brooklynn Drake, Kayte Falk, Andi Foster, Courtney Johnson, Lydia Keebler, Layla Kuhnert and Anna Sinclair, met the requirements of leadership, service, scholarship and character.

Friends of Hospice Volunteers meet on March 26
The monthly meeting of the NEK Friends of Hospice Volunteers met on Wednesday, March 26, at the Hospice office in Horton, KS. Those in attendance were President Rosemary Schooler, Vice President Alisa Britt, Secretary Betty Robison, Historian Dixie Westervelt, Charlene Branch, Donna Bottom, Nancy Burns, Shirley Browne, Terri Watkins, Social Worker Kendra Cowley, Office Manager Danielle Vaughn, Abby Boos RN, Clinical Supervisor, NEK Chaplain Mike Lehmann, and Michelle Bottom, Volunteer Coordinator.

Hiawatha Kiwanis Scholarship–in honor of Rance Hixon–available
The late Rance Hixson of Hiawatha held a passionate commitment regarding all the concepts required for membership in Kiwanis International. Fellow members say he was a man of great integrity, honesty, and character. He was well respected in the community and left a strong legacy. Hixson was actively involved in all aspects of the Hiawatha Kiwanis Club. By freely giving of his time and expertise, Hixson was instrumental in establishing several key parts of the club’s infrastructure. The club says by following his example we see how to make a difference in our communities today while complimenting the generations to follow.
