The book is entitled Kansas and Kansans in World War I and is published by the University Press of Kansas. Through the use of letters, newspapers, and other documents, author Blake Watson looks both at service in France and the war effort back home.

The South Brown County Community Foundation hosted its third annual Match Days event, July 9 - 11, 2024. Thanks to a Patterson Family Foundation grant and local match sponsors, SBCCF was able to offer its nonprofit organizations a 50% match on donations.

The first day of the school year kicked off on Thursday morning, with children and their families especially receiving a warm and colorful welcome at the Hiawatha Elementary School front entrance. Children and their families were greeted outside by HES Principal Danielle Dierenfeldt and therapy dog/ HES mascot Roxie, USD 415 Superintendent Lonnie Moser, a cowgirl on her horse and a giant friendly duck who greeted everyone with “Have a quacktastic day!” Hiawatha Police Department officers Paige Nigus and Brandon Lowewho also serves as the School Resource Officer--also greeted people at the entrance.
