Talking is a risky business these days. Saying certain words can end friendships, ruin careers, and in some cases, put people’s very lives in danger. Many of these words, “love,” for example, are not being used in their intended, original sense. These words have been hijacked, stripped of their original meaning, and “refilled” with a polarizing message. This process is ancient, deliberate, calculated, and agenda-driven.
The Horton Senior Center celebrated February members’ birthdays during coffee group on Tuesday. Many thanks to Carolyn Huguenin for bringing some cupcakes for the celebration.
During this time of the year over a billion cards are sold-making this the second biggest card sending occasion in the world. Cards can be sent to anyone; however, teachers, children, mothers, and wives generally receive the most. This is because of Valentine’s day.

It’s Melodrama time again in Robinson! Cast members are rehearsing for this year’s production which is entitled “Dogsbreath Devereaux, The Dastardly Doctor or... Nurses! Foiled Again!” written by Billy St. John. This is the 57th production of the Robinson Lions Clubs Annual Melodrama, and as always, it will be held in the Birdcage Theatre in Robinson.
The book of Matthew ends with what we call “The Great Commission.” Jesus has already risen from the dead and he is on a mountain in Gallilee with his disciples when he tells them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” It is time that we who call ourselves Jesus’ disciples take that charge seriously.
A Women’s Retreat, SHINE, is being planned for March 1 at First Baptist Church, located at 210 Lodge Road in Hiawatha.
The Horton Senior Citizens assisted the Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging deliver shelf stable food boxes to Horton residents on Jan. 23. We do this as one of our community projects that we do through out the year. Students at the Horton High School also come to help. Many thanks to Lori Campbell and her students for helping.
Hiawatha’s Arrow Twin Theatre is currently showing two new must-see movies. The movies are “Brave the Dark” directed by Damian Harris and rated PG-13, and a reboot of the classic 1941 motion picture, “Wolf Man,” directed by Leigh Whannell and rated R.
