As we prepare for a long weekend and make plans with our families and friends, remember what this weekend is about. Memorial Day is a day to remember our heroes that didn’t make it home. Remmeber their sacrifice and the honor in which they served to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.
The May 15, 2025 Brown County Genealogical Society meeting was opened by Vice President Sandy Carter, with 13 members and guests present.
The members of the Horton Senior Center saw a true story “Sound of Hope” during Movie Nite on Thursday, May 8 at the Center. Thank you to Shirley Foster for bringing the movie for us.
I recently finished a series preaching through the Sermon on the Mount. This section in Matthew’s Gospel has some of the highest standards Christians are supposed to live up to. While much of it seems impossible to accomplish, I believe Jesus would expect us as his disciples to at least try. Of course, I don’t have the space in this brief article here to expound on the entire Sermon on the Mount.
For Class of 2025 seniors, graduation is nearing and high school is coming to an end. Many individuals have a post-secondary plan, but some aren’t sure yet. Whichever person you are, there is a world of options and opportunities beyond high school. There are many ways to spend your summer as you can spend it preparing for college or prioritizing your happiness by making memories and living in the moment.
In Hiawatha, there is a lot of art around the town, whether they are art murals or musicians coming down to perform at the Hiawatha Creamery or town events. Many people are involved with music in our lives like music on the radio, as some listen to their favorite songs and start singing. Other arts that many students or individuals participate in are art or music classes.
The Hiawatha Middle School band performed its spring concert at the Hiawatha High School auditorium on Monday, May 5.
Members of the Horton Senior Citizens Center took a tour of the Werner Wagon Works on Tuesday, May 5. We enjoyed seeing some “works in progress” and hearing about all of the wagons that were built in Horton and shipped all over the U.S.A. Donnie and his wife Connie Werner have significant knowledge from building or refurbishing antique wagons. Many thanks to them both for taking the time to show us their business and answering all our questions.
Happy Mothers’ Day! I am looking forward to this one, my mom and sister are coming to see me preach. Like many preachers this week-end, I will be sharing the story of the raising of Tabitha. Which highlights the importance of women disciples in the early church…and Tabitha was certainly a church mother to celebrate.
