HHS Class of 1959 hosts 68th reunion

Hutchinson High School Class of 1956 conducted its 68th reunion Aug. 13 at Crow River Winery in Hutchinson. Twenty-one members attended the reunion. Legion Auxiliary meets Sept. 18

The regular meeting of the Hutchinson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 96 is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. Also meeting that evening is the Hutchinson American Legion Post 96. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. Both meetings are at the Hutchinson VFW, 247 First Ave. S.E.

Registration open for Spooky Sprint

It’s hard to believe, but Halloween is just around the corner. With that comes activities including the popular Spooky Sprint 5K and Kids Dash. This year’s event is Saturday, Oct. 26. As in the past, the run will start and finish on First Avenue Southeast across from Library Square in downtown Hutchinson. Race day packet pick up is 8-9 a.m. with the Kids Dash at 9:15 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m.

Wildcats win overtime thriller in season opener at home, 21-20

It wasn’t pretty, but the Kansas City Chiefs opened their season with a matchup against with last season’s top regular season team, the Baltimore Ravens, and were able to end the night the same way they started it--celebrating. On the night that the team toasted their Super Bowl win to cap the previous season with a brand new banner, the Chiefs had some moments of outstanding play and moments of fatigue and sloppiness, but ended the contest with a win when Ravens’ tight end Isaiah Likely seemingly caught a ball in the back of the end zone which was wiped out with a toe across the back line that sealed the 27-20 Kansas City victory.

As I sit and ponder and wonder about things from yesterday, I start to think about what they were thinking as our heroes walk to war. I know at 18 how I felt but some were even younger than I.

New member joins Robinson Lions Club

Members of the Robinson Lions Club welcomed new member, Pastor Rick Forthman, into the club at a Zone meeting held in the Community Center in Robinson on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Visiting District Governor, Margy Sundstrom and her husband, Mike, were present for the meeting which was attended by some members of other Clubs in District 17A. Other Clubs represented were Everest, Horton, Lancaster, and Hiawatha.

Morrill Public Library falls into autumn programs

The Morrill Public Library is ready for fall with a few favorites returning to the calendar and the addition of new programs. Youth Programs: Joey May, Community and Youth Service Librarian, said youth programs that took a hiatus for summer are back in action the first week of September with After School is Cool - for elementary age - moving to Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45 p.m.
