Entering into autumn

“For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the field; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. It is the same way with the rich; in the midst of a busy life, they will wither away.” - James 1:11 Happy Labor Day Weekend! As we enter full force into the numerous activities of Autumn, the return to school, the football games and other activities, the Maple Leaf festival and preparations for Halloween, the impending harvest, we take a day to celebrate labor with a day of rest. We follow the example of our Creator who rested after speaking our cosmos into being, pronounced it very good, and took rest. We also follow the command to honor the Sabbath…to take rest. Sabbath is not just for Sundays, not just for worship, not just a holding pattern to prepare for the rest of our lives, but a way to live into the grace God provides for us all.

Hiawatha man arrested for sex crimes

A 52-year old man was arrested over the weekend in connection with sex crimes, according to officials and according to a report by WIBW. WIBW also reports that Rosalio De Lorenzana-Solare, 52, of Hiawatha was being held on a $500,000 bond on Wednesday in the Nemaha County Jail in Seneca after he was arrested.

City of Hiawatha releases public notice about Community Development Block Grant

On Friday, August 23, the City of Hiawatha released details of a Community Development Block Grant Program on its Facebook page. “The City of Hiawatha is pleased to announce its intent to submit an application to the Kansas Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant Program,” according to a public notice by the City of Hiawatha.
