A history and overview of Boy Scouts of America in Hiawatha Time flies when one is learning skills to navigate the outdoors, earning merit badges for different projects and tasks and preparing for citizenship, character development and self-reliance. This statement is especially true with the the Boy Scouts of America, which has been around in Hiawatha for 100 years.

Hiawatha alumni threads together art and a good cause

Fabric artist Phil Jones threads together not only quilts with elaborate color patterns but even weaves imagery in some of his projects. Jones’ more detailed fiber projects feature trees overlooking a river and another with a picture showing a young man looking down at water from a bridge. These images that were painstakingly threaded to where one would think they resembled paintings are accompanied by various color patterns and designs.

BCDS members participate in Special Olympics

Eleven individuals from Brown County Development Services participated in the Regional Special Olympics Bowling in Topeka on Saturday, July 27. The Northeast Kansas Community Action Program (NEK-CAP, Inc.)
