The monthly meeting of the NEK Friends of Hospice Volunteers was held on Wednesday, July 24 at the Hospice office in Horton. Those in attendance were President Rosemary Schooler, Vice President Alisa Britt, Historian Dixie Westervelt, Secretary Betty Robison, Charlene Branch, Donna Bottom, Shirley Browne, Angel Dexter, Marty Mercer and Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Bottom. Angel’s granddaughter, Ruby, was a special guest.
Vintage Park in Hiawatha earned three awards during a celebration of all 15 Vintage Park establishments in Kansas back on June 25, which also included the Grace Management team. “Amazing staff and residents made it possible!” The awards Vintage Park earned were for Most Improved Occupancy, Year Over Year Growth and Most Net Gain.
The Brown County commissioners spoke with Road and Bridge member Rodney Allen about Falcon Road, but there were disagreements on the bids during the discussion between commission members. Allen said he received a couple of bids for fixing the bridge close to Falcon Road and use of road machines used to fix the bridge were also discussed.
A Hiawatha man was arrested for several drug charges on Tuesday, July 23, according to a report by Brown County Sheriff John Merchant. The reported stated that at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Brown County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force initiated a search warrant at 310 South 6th Street in Hiawatha.
