The Lady Red Hawk volleyball team took on the Silver Lake Eagles on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Despite their best efforts, Hiawatha lost on four separate sets at 25-20, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-13.
The unseasonably cool weather provided ideal conditions for the Hiawatha Red Hawks’ first home football game. As the players warmed up, there were surely butterflies swarming in their stomachs. The time had come to put all of the hard mental and physical preparation to task. The players were welcomed to the field by the band, cheerleaders, the Hiawatha Hawkettes and many others. Most notably was the 1980 Hiawatha 4A State Football Champions, who were recognized earlier.

The Hiawatha Lady Red Hawk volleyball team hit the ground running this fall season at the Big East League Volleyball Triangular event on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Despite some strong plays from everyone involved, the Red Hawks were defeated by the Holton Wild Cats at 25-12 in both sets and the Perry-Lecompton Kaws at 25-21 in the first set and 25-15 in the second set.
