Easter has no shortage of eggs to hunt after. This year’s Easter in Hiawatha has its share of eggs and prizes to hunt after, with the Easter Bunny himself present in all of the events happening (He sure is able to leap long distances to reach all of them!).

The Hiawatha Red Hawk Girls Softball team started their season by taking on the St. Mary’s Lady Bears. They played a double header and won both games by a score of 1-0 and 9-1. The Lady Red Hawks had seven innings of not only great pitching by Junior Adison Williams, but perfect defense behind her. They held the Lady Bears scoreless the first game. Adison Williams struck out 10 batters. Junior Kenzie Nelson had a strong showing behind the plate getting an important pick to keep the momentum in the Lady Red Hawks favor. She also led the team with nine putouts. On offense, Junior Claire Twombly led the team in hitting by going three for three at the plate along with Kenzie Nelson hitting a double.

The Red Hawk Boys Baseball Team played a double header Monday night at home against the Jefferson West Tigers. They lost both games by scores of 4-10 and 4-6.

The Hiawatha High School Pre-Festival Concert showed off a variety of concert and jazz ensembles on Tuesday evening.

Hiawatha, KS – Hiawatha Community Foundation (HCF) is pleased to announce the hiring of Deborah Geiger as our first full-time Executive Director. This full-time executive director position has been made possible through the Patterson Family Foundation Capacity Building Program established for rural communities and marks the ability for HCF to better serve the community and its nonprofit organizations. Deborah will officially begin her role as Executive Director of HCF on April 1, 2025.

The Kickapoo Health Center was awarded funds for expanding its facility, according to a press release by the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas that was released on Thursday, March 13.

American Legion Homer White Post 66 member Jim Patton was recognized for his 50 years of being a member of the organization.
