Hiawatha High School students Cameron Bosworth and Dani Morton were officially crowned as Winter Homecoming King and Queen of 2025 during halftime at the Red Hawk boys’ basketball game portion of the homecoming basketball competition against the Riley County Falcons during a special coronation ceremony that also featured winter homecoming candidates Alija Contreras and Tyler Willich and Kameron Winder and Jana Capparos. Both sides of the gym was packed full of members from the community, especially those who moved to get close enough to snap photos of the King and Queen.

The Hiawatha High School Red Hawk Forensics Team placed fourth at the McClouth Invitational that took place at McClouth High School on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Mission Lake Christian Camp at Horton, Kansas will be celebrating 75 years on April 12 at Horton Blue Building 716 1st Ave. in West Horton.

It’s Melodrama time again in Robinson! Cast members are rehearsing for this year’s production which is entitled “Dogsbreath Devereaux, The Dastardly Doctor or... Nurses! Foiled Again!” written by Billy St. John. This is the 57th production of the Robinson Lions Clubs Annual Melodrama, and as always, it will be held in the Birdcage Theatre in Robinson.

The Wrestling cooperative that includes Hiawatha, Doniphan West and Troy traveled to Atchison recently. All of the wrestlers competed at a high level and overall, there were eight athletes that placed in the tournament. Six of the wrestlers were from Hiawatha.

Mayor Becky Shamburg proclaimed that the week of Feb. 2 through Feb. 8 will be Scout Week.

First United Methodist Church launched an initiative to assist families attending USD 415 in Hiawatha.

The Hiawatha Red Hawk Scholar’s Bowl varsity team placed third at Jefferson West at the Big East League Scholars Bowl meet on Monday afternoon.
