Hiawatha, KS—August 13, 2025 – The Hiawatha School Supply Fund and Next Generation Financial Advisors-Thrivent are kicking off the new school year with a back-to-school BBQ! Families, students, community members and staff are invited to a Back to School Night on August 13th. In addition to students and parents meeting teachers and finding classrooms, a Back to School BBQ from 5:00-7:00 PM between Hiawatha Elementary School and the First United Methodist Church will be available to the community on a first come, first serve basis.
Colin Sample--a Hiawatha High School alumnus--and Codi Sample are competing in the America’s Favorite Couple competition and are currently in a close race for first place of their group.
Harold Soyland of Hiawatha will be celebrating his 80th birthday on Saturday, Aug. 23 with a card shower.
Brown County Developmental Services members competed at the Special Olympics bowling event in Topeka on Saturday, July 26.
Hiawatha hosted the Class B State American Legion Tournament over the weekend. On Saturday, July 26, the Hiawatha Post 66 Braves senior team achieved a win in the early afternoon and suffered a loss later that evening. The loss during the evening game ended Post 66’s summer baseball season.
With the first days of school looming on the horizon, Morrill Public Library has a few things going on the month of August.
2025’s Brown County Fair--started on Monday, June 30 and continued from Saturday, July 12 to Friday, June 18--was jam packed with a variety of 4-H project showcases, various activities for the public to major events demonstrating horse riding and showcasing cattle and other livestock.
Auditions for a murder mystery play will take place this August.
