The Hiawatha High School Red Hawk Track and Field Team qualified for the upcoming State track and field championships in Wichita this weekend after competing at the Big East League track competition that took place at Royal Valley on Thursday, May 22.
WINCHESTER, KANSAS — The Doniphan West High School track and field team performed excellently at the Class 2A Regional Meet held Thursday, May 22, at Jefferson County North High School. The girls’ team claimed the Regional Championship, and several Mustangs earned the chance to compete at the KSHSAA State Track & Field Championships, set for May 30–31 at Cessna Stadium at Wichita State University.
The Hiawatha High School Red Hawk boys’ varsity golf team took a swing at the 3A Regional at the Lake Shawnee Golf Course on Monday, May 19.
Two members of the Hiawatha High School Red Hawk track team earned first place in two events at the Big East League track meet at Silverlake on Thursday, May 15.
The Doniphan West High School track and field team turned in another strong showing at the Twin Valley League Track Meet on Thursday, May 15, at Washington County. The girls’ team placed fourth overall, and the boys earned ninth, as several Mustangs hit personal records and delivered top finishes across a variety of events.
The Hiawatha Red Hawks traveled to Sabetha Friday night. They opened up play in the Class 3A Baseball Regional against the Nemaha Central Thunder. The Hiawatha Red Hawks lost by a score of 12-2. Other teams in attendance were Riverside, Royal Valley, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Marysville, Sabetha and Atchison County. The Red Hawks carried a lead through the early innings. Junior Rhen Hageman kept it close through four innings with solid pitching. Hageman’s ability to mix up his throwing speeds with a solid curve ball, was very effective. The Red Hawks made a few errors in the field. The Nemaha Central Thunder were able to incorporate some timely hitting, which resulted in an unsuccessful combination for the Red Hawks. The Nemaha Central Thunder got the best of the Red Hawks over the seven innings.
Hiawatha Middle School released its new school records for this spring’s track season.
The Red Hawk varsity boys’ golf team competed at the Big East League Tournament on Monday, May 12. The Red Hawks held on during the tournament as they placed 10th at the end.
The Red Hawk varsity boys’ golf team competed at the Maur Hill Mount Academy golf invitational on Wednesday, May 7, where they placed fifth at the event.
