
DWHS track team takes off with achievements
The DWHS track season started at the Falls City meet on Tuesday, April 1, with several top placings and personal bests.

Doniphan West Junior High kicked off its track season on Thursday, April 3, at Highland Community College with an impressive showing from both boys and girls teams. Several Mustangs earned top-three finishes across a variety of events, setting personal records and seasonal bests in the process.
The Hiawatha High School Lady Red Hawk softball team batted hard and played hard as they beat the Riley County Lady Falcons in both games on Thursday, April 3, with the Red Hawks scoring 10-9 and 7-5 that evening.
The Hiawatha Red Hawk baseball team competed against the Riley County Falcons on Thursday evening on April 3. While the Red Hawks won the first game of the evening at 12-7, they lost the second game at 3-6. There were still some impressive plays by the Red Hawk players during the baseball game against the Falcons.
The Hiawatha Red Hawk Girls Softball team started their season by taking on the St. Mary’s Lady Bears. They played a double header and won both games by a score of 1-0 and 9-1. The Lady Red Hawks had seven innings of not only great pitching by Junior Adison Williams, but perfect defense behind her. They held the Lady Bears scoreless the first game. Adison Williams struck out 10 batters. Junior Kenzie Nelson had a strong showing behind the plate getting an important pick to keep the momentum in the Lady Red Hawks favor. She also led the team with nine putouts. On offense, Junior Claire Twombly led the team in hitting by going three for three at the plate along with Kenzie Nelson hitting a double.
The Red Hawk Boys Baseball Team played a double header Monday night at home against the Jefferson West Tigers. They lost both games by scores of 4-10 and 4-6.
The Red Hawk Track and Field team hit the ground running at the Holton event on Tuesday afternoon.
USD 415 released the results for the Hiawatha High School Red Hawk Powerlifters from their meet at State Powerlifting in Iola.
The Hiawatha High School Red Hawk Forensics Team placed fifth at the Washington County Invitational on Friday, March 28 and also placed seventh at the Riverside Invitational on Saturday, March 29.
