
Red Hawk Forensics team takes fourth at ACCHS

Excited students and staff were gathered at the hallways of Hiawatha High School as three high-profile Red Hawk wrestlers--Gary Johnson and Brenner Lowe--were accompanied by a drumline to celebrate them traveling to Salina to compete at the wrestling match at Fort Hays University as part of the wrestling co-op composed of the Red Hawks, Doniphan West High School and Troy Public Schools.
The Hiawatha Red Hawks Boys Basketball (9-11, 5-5) season came to an end Friday night. They lost to the Osage City Indians (13-7, 6-4) in the first round of Sub State. The game was played in Osage City. The final score was 68-59.
Hiawatha Middle School’s Red Hawk Scholar’s Bowl team has steadily been placing at the meet at Riley County on Monday, Feb. 24, with group 7A placing at second and 8A placing at fourth.
Doniphan West High School’s Layla Kuhnert delivered an impressive performance at the KSHSAA Girls 3-1A State Wrestling Championship, held at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays, Kansas, on February 28 and March 1. Competing in the 190-pound weight class, Kuhnert finished in 3rd place.
The DWHS girls’ basketball team started their postseason run in dominant fashion, defeating Pleasant Ridge 60-19 at home on Friday, Feb. 28. The Mustangs controlled the game from start to finish, using a relentless defense and scoring.
The DWHS Mustangs boys basketball season came to an end Thursday, Feb. 27 in the first round of sub-state, falling to Rossville 32-53. Despite a strong effort, the Mustangs couldn’t overcome the Bulldogs on their home court.
The Lady Red Hawks (11-8, 5-5) opened Sub State play on Thursday, Feb. 27. The round house was rockin’, as the Lady Red Hawks defeated The West Franklin Lady Falcons (7-14, 3-6). The final score was 57-40.
Hiawatha High School Red Hawk wrestlers will be competing this Friday and Saturday at a wrestling match in Salina at Fort Hays after having their tickets punched at the 4A National Wrestling Tournament that took place at Tonganoxie on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The Hiawatha High School Red Hawk Forensics Team competed at the Marysville forensics meet on Saturday, Feb. 22, with different team members making different placements. This match was a quick turnaround compared to the Royal Valley, where the Red Hawk team members did not make any placements.
