Brown County commissioners approve resolution from Planning Commission

The Brown County commission adopted a resolution for a comprehensive plan put together by the Brown County Planning Commission during Monday morning’s meeting.

The resolution also included a corrected Brown County map. All the Brown County commissioners voted to approve the resolution. The commissioners also passed a motion for a directive from the commission to recommend zoning districts that are necessary.

Below are other items that were discussed during the meeting:

• Director and Curator of the Brown County Historical Society Museum visited with the commissioners about removing a bat colony occupying the museum. All commissioners approved a bid from Kansas City, MO-based Bat Extrication Service to provide bat removal services for $12,309.

• All commissioners approved a solid waste budget amendment.

• Commissioners Richard Lehmkuhl and Lamar Shoemaker approved a county purchasing policy on a 2-1 vote, with Commissioner William Pollock dissenting.

• A contract for the Meals on Wheels program for the elderly was passed on a 2-1 vote, with Commissioner Pollock voting against the measure; despite dissenting, Pollock commented about the director of the program–Wanda Davis–with, “I think she’s doing a great job.”

• All commissioners approved a Kansas Department of Transportation grant for the Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging.

• All commissioners voted to approve the final report of the election; no incidents were reported.
