Dorothy Mehrten


Dorothy “Kay” Mehrten (Harvey), 77, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025.  Dorothy was born October 9, 1947, in Nortonville, Kansas.  Though she lived in various states throughout her life, she returned to her hometown in her later years, where she found comfort in being close to family and the community she cherished. 
Kay was very creative and expressed herself through quilting, cross-stitching, and macramé, creating pieces that brought warmth and joy to those around her.  She also had an exceptional talent for interior design, inspiring family and friends with her ability to transform spaces into places of comfort and elegance. 
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Mildred (Kline) Harvey, and beloved sister, Doris. 
She is survived by her siblings, Don, Lois, Richard, and Janet; her long-time partner, Rick; her three daughters:  Misty, Marcy, and Kelli; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. 
Kay’s family and friends will remember her for her artistic touch and love for her family.  Her legacy lives on in the beautiful memories and creations she has left behind.
