Fatality crash in Hiawatha

A two-vehicle fatality crash was reported on early Wednesday morning in Hiawatha on a Brown County highway

According to WIBW, the collision was reported around 6:12 a.m. on on U.S. Highway 36 near the junction with U.S. 73 Highway on the southeast side of Hiawatha. The crash’s location was about 70 miles northeast of Topeka.

“Kansas Highway Patrol officials said one person was reported to have died in the crash,” WIBW reported. Another person was also reported to have been injured in the crash and was transported to a local hospital.

“According to KanDrive.org,” WIBW stated. “US-36 was closed as of 6:53 a.m. Wednesday between US-75 highway on the west and the Brown-Doniphan county line on the east as crews responded to the scene.”

WIBW included that as of 7:51 a.m. on Wednesday that the highway was re-opened to traffic as Kansas Department of Transportation personnel were reported to be directing motorists around the crash scene.
