Cody Ptomey of Horton was sentenced to prison for sex crimes on Monday.

Ptomey, 23, was sentenced to 120 months in prison following his sentence for the crimes or Rape and Aggravated Sexual Battery. During the sentencing on Monday, Ptomey presented testimony from a clinical psychiatrist in Kansas City and requested a sentence of 80 months in prison. In response, the State of Kansas, represented by Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill, countered that Ptomey’s acts were extremely violent and merited significantly more prison time than what was recommended by Ptomey and his legal counsel.

The Brown County District Court, after hearing about the impact Ptomey’s actions had on his victims, agreed that Ptomey’s actions deserved a higher sentence and imposed a sentence of 120 months in prison. Ptomey was remanded in the Brown County Jail to be delivered to the Kansas Department of Corrections to begin serving his prison sentence.

After being released, Ptomey will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will also be placed on lifetime post release supervision with the Department of Corrections.
