Red Hawk Boys basketball season ends

The Hiawatha Red Hawks Boys Basketball (9-11, 5-5) season came to an end Friday night. They lost to the Osage City Indians (13-7, 6-4) in the first round of Sub State. The game was played in Osage City. The final score was 68-59.

The first quarter was very entertaining. Both teams battled extremely hard. Neither team could mount a lead, as the score went back and forth. Junior Michael Jensen played well on both sides of the ball. He led the Red Hawks in scoring for the quarter with 11 points. Junior Lane Kesler established himself inside and was very disruptive. He had four points and several rebounds.

The second quarter saw the Osage City Indians separate themselves. Their defense was tremendous and their offense continued to click. The second quarter score was 16-9 in favor of the Indians.

The Osage City Indians led at halftime 37-28.

The third quarter saw the contest tighten back up. The Red Hawks ran many defensive combinations. This allowed for some timely defensive stops. Senior Cameron Boswell hit a deep three pointer and the Red Hawks made 3-4 from the free throw line. The Indians inched out the points advantage in the third quarter, by a score of 14-12.

After three quarters the total score was 51-40 Indians.

The Red Hawks scratched and clawed to get back into the contest in the fourth quarter. The Red Hawks outscored the Osage City Indians 19-17 in the quarter. The Indians’ lead was just too much to overcome.

Senior Cameron Boswell led the Red Hawks scoring in his final game with 16 points.
