HFED Commits $17,500 Toward Architectural Fees for New Hiawatha Housing Development

Hiawatha, KS — The Hiawatha Foundation for Economic Development (HFED) Board of Directors has approved a $17,500 investment to cover architectural design fees for a new duplex housing development led by local developer Michael Webb. This funding supports a planned 3- to 5-acre site within city limits near Bruning Park that will feature attractive, single-story duplexes — each offering 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a 2-car garage — designed to meet the housing needs of working families and retirees alike.

HHS Class of 1984 Awards $10,500 in Scholarships

The Hiawatha High School Class of 1984 Scholarship Fund awarded a total of $10,500 in nonrenewable $1,500 scholarships to seven graduates of the HHS Class of 2025. For the second year in a row, every completed application received a scholarship. The committee elected to increase the award from $1,000 to $1,500, due to the increasing costs of education and ongoing cost-of-living impact to families.

Post 66 has a rematch with Corning, resulting in a split

The Hiawatha Post 66 Braves senior baseball team had a rematch with the Corning Legion team on Wednesday, June 18. This rematch with the Corning team resulted in a split where Post 66 failed to gain a win in the first half of the game but managed to get the upper hand and win the second half; the first game was 11-16 with the win going to Corning and the second game was 13-6 going to Hiawatha.

Hiawatha Swim team competes at Falls City

The Hiawatha Swim Team competed at the Falls City swim meet on Saturday, June 14. Hiawatha faced off against Marysville and Seneca on that day, Hiawatha scoring a total of 285 in the Boys Team Totals and 465 in the Girls Team Totals, with a combined total of 750 overall; Marysville scored a total of 1,023, Falls City scored 486 and Sabetha scored six. Seneca scored zero at the meet.
