A man who was arrested on US 75 Highway on Friday, Oct. 10 was later deported, according to a report by Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.

All members of the city commission approved a three percent wage increase for all full time employees during Monday evening’s meeting. The wage increase--passed through Resolution 2025-12--would go into effect in Jan. 1, 2026.

The Hiawatha High School Lady Red Hawk team finished their season at the 3-2-1A Sub-State at Silver Lake taking place at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course on Monday.

The Hiawatha Lady Red Hawks headed to Sabetha on Saturday for a tournament. The Lady Red Hawks took with them some momentum, winning five out of the last six matches in the two weeks leading up to this tournament.

The Hiawatha High School Red Hawk football team took a break from District play as they traveled south to Oskaloosa on Friday, Oct. 10 to take on the Bears team. The Red Hawks defeated the Bears at 56-13.

Parenting has always been a tall task, but an assortment of new challenges have emerged as the world has shifted during the digital age. No child is immune to bullying, and modern parents can probably point to at least one instance when they were bullied during childhood. But that bullying may bear little resemblance to cyberbullying, a relatively recent phenomenon that can be extraordinarily harmful to kids.


Students are bullied every day. Bullying can happen anywhere, but it is prevalent in school environments. Bullying is often under-reported because children and young adults may be scared of the consequences of outing their bullies.
