The Horton community mourned the passing an officer for the City of Horton Police Department.

The Lady Red Hawks are playing host at the Hiawatha High School Girls Invitational Tournament. Schools joining Hiawatha are Troy, St Marys, Lafayette, Marysville and Jackson Heights. The Lady Red Hawks got off to a winning start in their opening game against the Jackson Height Lady Cobras. The final score was 51-18.

The Hiawatha Red Hawk Scholar’s Bowl varsity team placed third at Jefferson West at the Big East League Scholars Bowl meet on Monday afternoon.

The Red Hawk Scholar’s Bowl junior varsity team earned third place at the Oskaloosa Invitational on Monday.

March 1 of 2025 marks the 25th year since Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Michael Widman gave his life protecting the citizens of Brown County. He was just 21 years of age.

The Hiawatha Red Hawk Forensics Team took fourth place at the forensics meet held at Sabetha and St. Marys. The Red Hawks placed fourth out of 11 teams.

Hiawatha Foundation for Economic Development hosted its annual meeting at The Alley--located at 1000 1st Street--on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
