HIAWATHA, KANSAS, July 28, 2025---The Hazel T. Nelson Scholarship Fund awarded $49,250.00 in grants to 24 graduates of Hiawatha High School attending college and graduate school in the upcoming academic year, according to Citizens State Bank and Trust Company, which administers the fund. Mrs. Nelson, a resident of Hiawatha, passed away in 1987 and made several large, charitable bequests. Scholarships have been granted for 37 years and may continue for fifty years from inception.
Hiawatha hosted the Class B State American Legion Tournament over the weekend. On Saturday, July 26, the Hiawatha Post 66 Braves senior team achieved a win in the early afternoon and suffered a loss later that evening. The loss during the evening game ended Post 66’s summer baseball season.
With the first days of school looming on the horizon, Morrill Public Library has a few things going on the month of August.
Hiawatha Post 66 played host to the 2025 Class B State American Legion Baseball Tournament. Hiawatha Post 66 was defeated by the number one seed, Marysville Post 163 by a score of 7-4. The game was played on Friday evening at Noble Park.
