The Lady Red Hawks (8-6, 4-4), were home on Tuesday evening. They were beaten by the Holton Lady Wildcats (7-8, 5-5). The final score was 61-34.

The Hiawatha Red Hawks (6-9, 2-5) won at home on Friday night by a score of 60-37. They defeated the Holton Wildcats (5-10, 4-4).
A new scam is circulating the area and I would like to make residents aware of.
Hiawatha received a day’s worth of snowfall between Tuesday evening and most of Wednesday. Snow removal vehicles traveled through mostly empty streets as a constant amount of snowfall fell on the town.
The Brown County commission met with Landfill Director Don Pounds about a waste removal program and some complaints about the costs regarding this program.

Everyone knows the Wi-Fi has been performing poorly at Hiawatha High School as of late; however, the majority of us do not know why. During the last two weeks, HHS students were told multiple times that the issues should be fixed, but then the Wi-Fi continued to go out. Other issues have included only teachers having Wi-Fi issues, certain rooms being disconnected while others aren’t, and the Wi-Fi going on and off within minutes over and over again. These outages have disrupted many classes, and have impacted students’ ability to get their work done. However, teachers were arguably affected the most by these Wi-Fi troubles, as the outages disrupted lesson plans, and hindered the ability to use e-passes and accept them.

Hiawatha High School students Cameron Bosworth and Dani Morton were officially crowned as Winter Homecoming King and Queen of 2025 during halftime at the Red Hawk boys’ basketball game portion of the homecoming basketball competition against the Riley County Falcons during a special coronation ceremony that also featured winter homecoming candidates Alija Contreras and Tyler Willich and Kameron Winder and Jana Capparos. Both sides of the gym was packed full of members from the community, especially those who moved to get close enough to snap photos of the King and Queen.
