Hiawatha Chamber & Visitors Bureau hosted its annual meeting at the Fisher Center on Monday evening with food, prizes, awards given to local businesses and two positions in the HCVB Board of Directors being filled.
The book of Matthew ends with what we call “The Great Commission.” Jesus has already risen from the dead and he is on a mountain in Gallilee with his disciples when he tells them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” It is time that we who call ourselves Jesus’ disciples take that charge seriously.
A Women’s Retreat, SHINE, is being planned for March 1 at First Baptist Church, located at 210 Lodge Road in Hiawatha.
The Wrestling cooperative that includes Hiawatha, Doniphan West and Troy traveled to Atchison recently. All of the wrestlers competed at a high level and overall, there were eight athletes that placed in the tournament. Six of the wrestlers were from Hiawatha.
The Lady Red Hawks (7-3, 4-2), took to the court Saturday afternoon of Feb. 1. They played in their third and final round game of the Hiawatha High School Girls Invitational Tournament. The Lady Red Hawks were defeated the Troy Lady Trojans (11-1, 6-0). The final score was 44-33.
The Hiawatha Red Hawks (4-8, 1-4) visited Perry-Lecompton on Friday night to face the Kaws. They lost in overtime by a final score of 56-49.
One of the most important school activities for students to participate in is journalism. Being involved in journalism allows students to better understand journalistic writing.
