The Doniphan West chapter of the National Honor Society inducted new members in an evening ceremony on Tuesday, March 25. The new members, Michael Albers, Hayden Paolino, Jaidyn Smith, Tabin Clary, Brooklynn Drake, Kayte Falk, Andi Foster, Courtney Johnson, Lydia Keebler, Layla Kuhnert and Anna Sinclair, met the requirements of leadership, service, scholarship and character.
Four DWHS Mustangs earned postseason Twin Valley League (TVL) basketball honors for their outstanding performances this season. Sophomore Courtney Johnson was named to the All-League First Team, and seniors Brennah Edie and Katie Johnson, along with junior Kolter Peterson, received second-team honors.
The DWHS Lady Mustangs made a thrilling run at the 2A state basketball tournament at Bramlage Coliseum, finishing as the state runner-up. DWHS, the smallest 2A school in Kansas, battled through three intense games to claim second place, finishing the season with a 19-6 record.
The Doniphan West Lady Mustangs are headed to the Class 2A state tournament after a hard-fought 39-35 victory over Wabaunsee in the sub-state championship played at Valley Heights on Saturday, March 8.
The DWHS girls’ basketball team started their postseason run in dominant fashion, defeating Pleasant Ridge 60-19 at home on Friday, Feb. 28. The Mustangs controlled the game from start to finish, using a relentless defense and scoring.
The DWHS Mustangs boys basketball season came to an end Thursday, Feb. 27 in the first round of sub-state, falling to Rossville 32-53. Despite a strong effort, the Mustangs couldn’t overcome the Bulldogs on their home court.
The Doniphan West High School girls wrestling team showcased their talent and determination at the KSHSAA Girls 3-1A East Super Regional, held at Rossville High School on February 14-15. The tournament featured tough competition, with Doniphan West’s wrestlers battling through the brackets in hopes of securing a spot at the state tournament.
The Doniphan West Mustangs basketball teams have been battling through a busy February schedule, as they approach the final games of the regular season.
The D-West Mustangs took on Axtell on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Blue Valley on Friday, Jan. 31, in a pair of home basketball matchups.
