HIAWATHA, KS — The Hiawatha Community Foundation is thrilled to announce that this year’s Give Back to Move Forward Match Day raised an astounding $291,269.56 to support local nonprofits, schools, and community causes across the communities of USD 415, surpassing last year’s total of $238,012.89.

Hiawatha Community Foundation hosting Match Days on Memorial Day weekend

A banner for the Hiawatha Community Foundation Match Days event was hung on Hiawatha’s City Hall on the week of Friday, May 16, the week after Mayor Becky Shamburg made the proclamation that the week of May 18 to May 24 would be deemed as Community Foundation Week, which is the same week that the Foundation will be hosting its Match Days event at the Fisher Center on the morning of Friday, May 23 and the afternoon of Saturday, May 24.

HCF Highlights: About Brown County Genealogical Society

The Brown County Genealogical Society was chartered in June 1997 by first president and founder Lyle Hinz. In 1999 we moved into our present building at 116 S 7th Street, Hiawatha with just a small amount of genealogy resources. Over the years we have grown our collection and we now house information from several surrounding communities, family histories that have been donated, funeral pamphlets, death notices from area papers and much more.

Hiawatha Community Foundation Welcomes Deborah Geiger as First Full-Time Executive Director

Hiawatha, KS – Hiawatha Community Foundation (HCF) is pleased to announce the hiring of Deborah Geiger as our first full-time Executive Director. This full-time executive director position has been made possible through the Patterson Family Foundation Capacity Building Program established for rural communities and marks the ability for HCF to better serve the community and its nonprofit organizations. Deborah will officially begin her role as Executive Director of HCF on April 1, 2025.

Hiawatha Community Foundation receives capacity building grant

Hiawatha Community Foundation (HCF), serving Hiawatha, Robinson, Reserve and Fairview, is proud to announce the receipt of a Patterson Family Foundation Capacity Building Grant. This program was created to help rural community foundations address staffing challenges. With the receipt of this grant, Hiawatha Community Foundation has the ability to hire its first executive director.
