Hiawatha Elementary second grade students recently took a walking field trip to the Hiawatha Post Office, where they were warmly greeted by Postmaster Ashley Martinez.

HES principal awarded by KAEA
The Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA) has selected Danielle Dierenfeldt, Hiawatha Elementary School Principal, to receive a 2025-26 Art Enhancer Award. The award will be officially presented at the KAEA Fall Conference on Friday October 10 in Hiawatha Kansas.
First day at school at HES
Hiawatha Elementary School students and their families were greeted by a rubber chicken. HES teachers and staff--as well as USD 415 Superintendent Lonnie Moser and a giant blue elephant--met with students coming in as music was playing in the background.
HES announces April Character Kids
April’s character word of the month was Perseverance. Grade level teachers chose one boy and one girl who showed the characteristics of Perseverance. Students received a certificate, a $5 gift card to the Hiawatha Creamery and a Red Hawk character kids t-shirt!

Hiawatha Elementary School second grader Taya Nelson was honored on Friday, March 29 by the Kansas Art Education Association at the state’s Youth Art Month celebration as one of the recipients of the 2025 Anne and Bill Bracker 3-D Yam Awards.

Board of Education discuss bond and mill levy information for the future
The USD 415 Board of Education met on Monday evening to meet with a representative from investment bank and financial services company Piper Sandler about bond options and information for the Hiawatha school system and what financial information would look like in the school district’s near future.
