Friends of Hospice Volunteers meet on Jan. 22
The monthly meeting of the NEK Friends of Hospice Volunteers was held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, at the Horton Office. Those in attendance were President Rosemary Schooler, Vice President Alisa Britt, Secretary Betty Robison, Donna Bottom, Charlene Branch, Nancy Burns, Terri Watkins, and Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Bottom.

Red Hawk Ballers place 6th At Nemaha Central Boys Basketball Tournament
After dropping the opening game and winning their next contest, the Hiawatha Red Hawks finished in 6th place at the 11th annual Nemaha Central Boys Basketball Tournament. They were defeated Saturday, by the Marysville Bulldogs. The final score was 53-41.

The Red Hawk Scholar’s Bowl varsity team scored 7-1 and earned second place at the Perry Lecompton 12-team meet on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Debate occurs over courthouse security during county meeting
One of the topics on the Brown County meeting agenda turned out to be one of the most heated, as there was an argument about whether the current security setup at the Brown County Courthouse needed to be scaled down or left in place.

Nemaha Central Thunder Rolls Over The Red Hawks
The Hiawatha Red Hawks were in Seneca Tuesday night, to participate in the 11th annual Nemaha Central Boys Basketball Tournament. They were defeated by the home team by a final score of 52-32. Teams joining Nemaha Central and Hiawatha were from Troy, Jackson Heights, St. Mary’s, Holton, Rock Creek and Marysville.
