As we prepare for a long weekend and make plans with our families and friends, remember what this weekend is about. Memorial Day is a day to remember our heroes that didn’t make it home. Remmeber their sacrifice and the honor in which they served to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.
Evan Joseph Baker of Hiawatha graduated from Kansas Connections Academy on Friday, May 16.
The Hiawatha Baseball and Softball Club received a donation from local cabinet-maker Koch & Company, Inc. on Tuesday morning on May 20.
Each year, Citizens State Bank & Trust Company awards a scholarship to a Hiawatha High School Graduate who plans to attend Highland Community College in the fall. The 2025 Recipient is Paul Mueller.

Two members of the Hiawatha High School Red Hawk track team earned first place in two events at the Big East League track meet at Silverlake on Thursday, May 15.
The May 15, 2025 Brown County Genealogical Society meeting was opened by Vice President Sandy Carter, with 13 members and guests present.
The Hiawatha Red Hawks traveled to Sabetha Friday night. They opened up play in the Class 3A Baseball Regional against the Nemaha Central Thunder. The Hiawatha Red Hawks lost by a score of 12-2. Other teams in attendance were Riverside, Royal Valley, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Marysville, Sabetha and Atchison County. The Red Hawks carried a lead through the early innings. Junior Rhen Hageman kept it close through four innings with solid pitching. Hageman’s ability to mix up his throwing speeds with a solid curve ball, was very effective. The Red Hawks made a few errors in the field. The Nemaha Central Thunder were able to incorporate some timely hitting, which resulted in an unsuccessful combination for the Red Hawks. The Nemaha Central Thunder got the best of the Red Hawks over the seven innings.
