The Trinity Center, at 101 S. 3rd in Hiawatha, invites anyone in the community to a free meal and socializing on Wednesday, Oct. 29th from 5-7 p.m. (or when the food runs out).

Hiawatha is almost a week away from celebrating its 111th Hiawatha Halloween Frolic happening from Oct. 29-31. Hiawatha is famous for being named “Halloweentown” as the local culture of celebrating Halloween beginning 111 years ago thanks to Hiawatha resident Elizabeth Krebs for inspiring the Frolic. Krebs also made Hiawatha the site of being the United States’ oldest Halloween parade by holding a party for kids of Hiawatha on the night of Halloween, with the children dressing in costumes and decorating their trikes and receiving small awards and cookies.

Richard Tesoriero of Hiawatha was officiated as the new District 1 Commissioner before Monday afternoon’s Brown County Commissioner meeting on Oct. 20, with Richard Tesoriero’s wife--Pamela Tesoriero--being present during the swear-in ceremony.

Many students at Hiawatha High School are involved in extra curricular activities such as Volleyball, Scholars Bowl and Cross Country. While these activities all require talent, an often overlooked part of team success is the ability to be a good teammate.

Hiawatha, KS. October 15, 2025 - Amberwell Hiawatha recently welcomed several talented art students from Hiawatha High School, led by their teacher, Matt Leahy, as part of the school’s community service day.

Students at Hiawatha High School might remember how much panic there was when TikTok was going to get banned. Everyone frantically tried to figure out what they were going to doom scroll on once it was gone. Now, think for a second about what you would do if the extreme was to happen with every other notable social media platform getting banned. That’s exactly what was going to happen in Nepal at the start of September with the government planning to ban every social media platform except TikTok, Viber, Witk, Nimbuzz, and Popo Live.

Hiawatha High School held its annual Community Service Day on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

When choosing between living in a small town or a big city, it’s really the choice between a life of meaning or a life of chaos. Living in small towns provides people with a stronger sense of community for support, a deeper sense of belonging and a calmer pace of life. City living creates stress, loneliness, and depression from the large population and fast, crazy pace of life.
