But consumers’ vulnerability to scams has seemingly increased in the twenty-first century, when the Internet and devices like smartphones have enabled scammers to gain access to potential victims’ financial information and even gain virtual entry into their homes.

We have been receiving complaints from county residents that they are receiving text messages from what appears to be the Blue Valley Bank of Hiawatha. The text messages are stating that a debit was set up on their card and they are asking residents to reply or visit a site provided to cancel.
