The members of the Horton Senior Citizens Center wants to welcome Judith Williams who has volunteered to be our receptionist at the Center. She will be here several days each week to help visitors with any questions they may have or just welcome and visit. Be sure to drop in and welcome her!

Senior Moments

The Horton Senior Citizens held their monthly board meeting and carry in meal on May 20. It was decided at the meeting to have a fund raiser to help pay for the monthly operating expenses at the Center. We will be serving beef burgers, chips of your choice, a beverage of your choice, and cookies during the Car Show, Farmers Market and city wide garage sales on May 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are located in downtown Horton at 116 W. 8th St.

Members of the Horton Senior Citizens Center took a tour of the Werner Wagon Works on Tuesday, May 5. We enjoyed seeing some “works in progress” and hearing about all of the wagons that were built in Horton and shipped all over the U.S.A. Donnie and his wife Connie Werner have significant knowledge from building or refurbishing antique wagons. Many thanks to them both for taking the time to show us their business and answering all our questions.

The Horton Senior Citizens are happy to have new chairs and blinds! They arrived last week. Many thanks to Larry Paulsen, Phil Wiley and Dean Mercer for getting the blinds installed and also to Janice Langdon for helping to get the chairs unwrapped and set up in the center. We would not have been able to make these improvements without the generous donations from our friends.

The Horton Senior Citizens Movie for this month was “The Forge.” It was a sequel to “The War Room” and was very good and inspiring. Thank you to Shirley Foster for providing the movies for Movie Nite.

The Horton Senior Citizens Center welcomed visitors from Vintage Park in Hiawatha on March 10. We met new friends and some old friends that have visited before. We shared refreshments and good stories and celebrated the beginning of better weather. Vintage Park plans to continue to visit through the summer once every month.

The Horton Senior Center celebrated February members’ birthdays during coffee group on Tuesday. Many thanks to Carolyn Huguenin for bringing some cupcakes for the celebration.

The Horton Senior Citizens assisted the Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging deliver shelf stable food boxes to Horton residents on Jan. 23. We do this as one of our community projects that we do through out the year. Students at the Horton High School also come to help. Many thanks to Lori Campbell and her students for helping.

The activities at the Horton Senior Center has resumed their usual schedule after last weeks big snow storm. The weather continues to be very cold and the streets icy but we were all happy to get out of the house and see everyone.
