Pony Express National Re-Ride Departs Sacramento June 11 — Historic Journey Revived Across Eight States

SACRAMENTO, CA – June 5, 2025 — Riders, history buffs, and communities along the historic Pony Express Trail are preparing for the 2025 National Pony Express Re-Ride, California Pony Express President Rich Tatman will open the event at 1:15 PM and the first rider departs Wednesday, June 11 from Old Sacramento at 2:00 PM PDT. This year’s journey will span over 1,900 miles and continue 24/7 on horseback, following the original mail route to St. Joseph, Missouri, with arrival expected at 7:30 PM CDT on Saturday, June 21 at the steps of the Patee House.

Pony Express Annual Re-Ride Enters Kansas on June 20 – 21

Pollock Pines, CA – May 20, 2025 – The powerful legacy of the Pony Express continues on Friday, June 20, 2025, as the Kansas Division of the National Pony Express Association (NPEA) takes the reins from the Nebraska Division at the Nebraska/Kansas state line, launching an exciting day of history, heritage, and horsemanship. Riders will relay the symbolic mochila through several iconic Kansas towns before handing it off to the Missouri Division at Elwood. This coast-to-coast re-ride commemorates the legendary Pony Express mail service of 1860–1861, with hundreds of riders participating in a 10-day, 24/7 relay from Sacramento, CA to St. Joseph, MO.
