The Hiawatha Red Hawks traveled to Sabetha Friday night. They opened up play in the Class 3A Baseball Regional against the Nemaha Central Thunder. The Hiawatha Red Hawks lost by a score of 12-2. Other teams in attendance were Riverside, Royal Valley, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Marysville, Sabetha and Atchison County. The Red Hawks carried a lead through the early innings. Junior Rhen Hageman kept it close through four innings with solid pitching. Hageman’s ability to mix up his throwing speeds with a solid curve ball, was very effective. The Red Hawks made a few errors in the field. The Nemaha Central Thunder were able to incorporate some timely hitting, which resulted in an unsuccessful combination for the Red Hawks. The Nemaha Central Thunder got the best of the Red Hawks over the seven innings.
The Red Hawk varsity boys’ golf team competed at the Big East League Tournament on Monday, May 12. The Red Hawks held on during the tournament as they placed 10th at the end.
The Red Hawk varsity boys’ golf team competed at the Maur Hill Mount Academy golf invitational on Wednesday, May 7, where they placed fifth at the event.
